The okWord Workshop

The okWord Workshop is a school year based music production and engineering program dedicated to sharing the skills of music production, recording and mixing.  Participants will learn how to produce a record from start to finish using current technology.  They will also learn how to capture the musical performances of vocalists and live musicians using industry standard platforms and practices.  Lastly, they will learn how to turn the raw performances into a polished record using mixing and mastering techniques.

The goal of the okWord Workshop is to help our youth explore creative outlets for expression, communication and collaboration.  Using music as a tool, we will impart them with valuable skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, as well as a number of technical skills that can be used in a number of industries and professions.

The artistic aspect of learning how to produce a record is about understanding how to communicate a thought, an emotion or a mood.  This is an effective way of helping the participants learn how to express themselves and communicate with others.  By learning and working with the technology associated with recording and mixing, participants will have gained technical skills that can be transferred into fields such as engineering, live sound and sound design.
